The dealer died soon after that date, and his stock was disposed of. Mr. May bought three coins from the dealer; Constantius I, Aug. (?) 1 Magnentius 1 FEL TEMP REPARATIO, falling horseman 1 3 (b. Robertson 2000, 147 no. 657: "23 April 1764 "Some time ago, two labouring men digging somewhere in Stowlangtoft, a village near St. Edmund's Bury, in Suffolk, found an earthen pot, full of old Roman coins. The metal is not valuable, for they are all copper; nor are the pieces themselves remarkably rare. Those that had an opportunity of seeing the most of them, could not certainly distinguish more than four sorts; viz. Victorinus, Posthumus, Tetricus Aug. and Tetricus Caes. But the number was very considerable, being 7000, if not more. They were sold to a man at Bury, for one shill…

Robertson 2000, 341-342 no. 1400: ""Close to Sutton Hall. Two urns containing Roman copper coins found 1870." O.S. 6 in. LXXVII S.W. VCH Suffolk, I (1911), 318, suggested that this and the hoard listed under Sutton, c. 1870 (Suffolk) [no. 1249] were one and the same, but the latter find seems to have comprised only one pot of coins, while this find was of two. It is possible that the O.S. reference may relate to the two pots now in Ipswich Museum, and said to have been found at Butley. Butley and Sutton are neighbouring parishes. See Butley, before 1930 (Suffolk) [no. 1150]. Alt…

In the year 1845, as some labourers were trenching some land for planting on the Scot Hall Farm, one of them struck his pickaxe into the side of an earthern pot, from whence fell about 18 or 20 pieces of coin. These were Roman, a few of them silver, the rest brass; they were greatly corroded, and the legends not easy to be made out, and none of them ascertained. The pot was of coarse earth, very thick; the sides near 1/2 an inch, and the bottom two or more; …
