Silver ring with a broad, flat-sectioned hoop and a slightly raised square bezel engraved with a complex decorative device consisting of a bird standing facing left, a small upright plant below its hooked beak and a fish beneath its feet. Above it is another object, possibly a capricorn. Report by C Johns. Ring no. 1, the only object in good condition, is a classic example of the Brancaster type with a complex and unusual decorative device which may well have Christian connotations. A damaged ring, one shoulder broken and the hoop distorted. The triangular shoulders are decorated with simple deep grooves and the hoope is a slender one of roughly square cross-section. The large oval bezel would originally have had a decorated metal plaque soldered to its surface but this is lost. Report by C Johns. Bezel 18 x 15mm

A badly damaged handle from a spoon of cochlear type, which originally had a pear-shaped bowl. The handle attachment forms a rat-tail beneath the bowl and the offset is closed and pierced with a distinctive asymmetric heart-shaped opening, while the handle itself is of circular tapering cross-section. The tip is missing. Report by C Johns. Overall length 66mm

A fragment of silver Roman fibula of the mid or late first century AD was found on the same site, but is not believed to have been associated with the hoard. Cross-piece and upper bow of a small silver fibula. Even when complete, the brooch would have been no more than about 2cm in length. Impressed decoration consisting of two lines of raised zig-zag lines along the bow and encircling each side of the cross-piece. The fibula is a small example of the dolphin type, an early Roman form current in Britain in the middle of the first century AD and into the second half of the century. Repo…
