Incomplete Middle Saxon/Late Saxon strap-end of Thomas 2003 Class A Type 5, attachment edge and part of central area missing. The moulded animal head is very abraded, with little detail surviving. Parts of two fields of niello inlay are extant, with the niello appearing silver and spirals of silver wire surviving only as impressions. Length >34mm. Width 13mm. 9th century.

Medieval copper alloy two-piece shield-shaped strap end with five rivets and one secondary iron rivet near one end of the attachment edge. The sides of the front sheet plate are bent backwards. There is no decoration. Small fragments of the front plate have been lost near the outside edge. Some leather remains on the interior. The form is similar to that of an example from the Museum of London (Egan and Pritchard 1991, fig. 87). 42 x 46.5mm. 14th - first half 15th century.

Incomplete medieval copper alloy composite tongue-shaped strap end consisting of three or more elements: a front plate decorated with two interweaving rocker-arm engraved lines and lacking its upper end; a full-width spacer or possibly a back plate, lacking more of its upper end; a cast knop mirroring the shape of the lower ends of the other two pieces, with opposed lateral rounded cut-outs, and decorated with a transverse groove and two oblique grooves flanking a V-sectioned notch (cf. NMS-C23E56). Extant length 43mm. Width 8.4mm. 14th century.
