A fragment of the rim of a cast copper-alloy cooking vessel of late Medieval to Post medieval date ( 1450-1600 ). The fragment is roughly rectangular, 36.07mm long, 26.42mm wide, 4.83mm in thickness and weighs 17.2g. The fragment shows a curvature that indicates that the original diameter of the vessel would have been approx 34cms. The exterior surface is slightly pitted, but almost entirely coated in burnt black organic matter from when the vessel was near the fire. A rim and shoulder fragment of a wheel-thrown Roman vessel, probably a bowl, probably a local Romano-British coarseware type. The vessel has a rounded beaded rim. The fabric is an orange-brown colour and there is evidence of abundant mica-dusting to the outer surfaces when the clay was still wet. Just below the shoulder is the start of a series of diagonal incised lines forming part of the original decoration pattern. The vessel is probably a regional coarse ware and dates from the 1st to 4th centuries AD Estimated original rim diameter - 16cm
