A complete cast copper-alloy plate brooch of first to second century AD date. The plate is lozenge shaped in form with a complete zoomorphic head of a snake, turtle or bird projecting from its front upper edge. The front face of the plate is raised and has enamelled decoration comprising a central field containing orange enamel. This is surrounded by four fields that extend from each side of the central field to each of the corners of the plate,one field containing green coloured enamel , the other three having lost all traces of the original enamel. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman zoomorphic plate brooch in the form of a seated hen or cockerel. Only the neck and head of the bird survive, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. The neck is conical in form, terminating in old breaks at its base. At its top the neck tapers towards the head. This is flat, circular in form with a slight crest on the top of the head and with ring and dot eyes. The beak is open. The entire brooch measures 19.38mm in length/height, 11.36mm in width, 2.84mm in thickness at head (1.04mm at plate), and weighs 2.3g. The brooch has an even mid brown pat…

A complete copper alloy, enamelled and silvered cast Roman continental bow brooch, 2nd - early 3rd Century AD. The upper bow of the brooch is expanded to form a large, triangle shaped field for decoration. This upper plate is divided into two areas, a raised triangle within a larger triangle. The outer ( lower ) triangular field is silvered . The inner triangular field contains remnants of green enamel.
