An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester derivative hinged type. With considerable corrosion and old damage only one wing and top part of the bow survive. The remaining wing is cylindrical in shape with a join running across the reverse where it has been rolled from a single piece of metal and there is a transverse slot in the centre within which is iron concretion. At the outer end of the wing can be seen evidence of an iron axis bar, also corroded. Although damaged, the D-shaped, sharply-curved bow shows decoration on its face by way of upward-curving diago…
