The outer surface has both small pale colour irregular sub-circular markings and also raised circular dark areas, it is unclear if these are part of a crude design or are the result of accidental action during the firing. A small body sherd from Belamine jug, from the mid 16th-mid 17th century. The outer surface has an iron-rich brown surface which has been salt-glazed, which produces the mottled brown effect. The interior is a reddish pink colour. The fabric is hard fired and light grey in colour. There is a small piece of floral design visible on the sherd. The sherd is 37.75 mm high, 46.72.37mm wide and 8.02 mm in thickness. It weighs 22.4 grams. A sherd from a German Bartmann or Bellarmine stoneware jar dating c. 16th-17th century. The sherd is broadly sub-rectangular in plan view and comprises most of the moulded bearded face which adorned the neck of these ceramic vessels. The vessel has been manufactured on a wheel, evinced by the presence of prominent rilling marks on the inside surface, while the outer surface has been decorated with a speckled salt glaze which gives the sherd a mottled whitish brown appearance.
