Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper-alloy Roman to Medieval mount, dating to AD 43-1350. It consists of a sub-rectangular plate which has a perforation on the straight end. The opposite end curves slightly sideways taking a hooked shape in plan. The surfaces are not decorated and are moderately worn. The curved end of the mount recalls the ends of the S-shaped plate brooch of the Early Medieval period. Although it might look like a flattened serpent head there are no other elements to help the identification. Length: 39.41mm Width: 12.73mm Thickness: 1.15mm Weight: 2.63g

A copper-alloy fragment of a possibly Roman to Medieval mount, dating to AD 100-1250. It is a roughly L-shaped plate with breaks on both ends. The long edge has a protruding circular loop, which is now broken. One face is silvered while the opposite has traces of white metal but it is not sure if it is coating or soldering. The surfaces are worn and the hort arm is slightly bent. No prallels found. It seems to thin to be an Early Medieval girdle hunger, for which the shape would not work either. The silvering could suggest a Roman or Medieval date. Length: 25.87mm Widt…

An incomplete copper-alloy probably Medieval mount or pendant, dating to AD 1200-1500. It consists of a trapezoidal plate, which has an incomplete extending loop on the upper and shorter edge; the lower edge is slightly concave. The front face of the plate has a convex trapezoidal centre, which is damaged by denting and a central perforation. The flat rim around the convex centre is decorated with a zigzag line. The front face bears traces of gilding. The back face has a concave centre; it is very abraded. The shape suggested it could have been a book mount like the examples in E…
