A complete Medieval buckle dating to circa AD 1350-1550. It consists of a single loop D-shape frame with narrowed and offset bar. The frame is plano-convex in section. The plate is externally cast and comprised of a rectangular plate which narrows into a loop wrapped around the bar. The loop gives way to a square element which is riveted to the plate.

A Medieval copper-alloy buckle dating to circa AD 1350-1500. It is a spur buckle with integrally cast plate. The frame is bent out of shape and now incomplete but is D-shaped. The pin is now missing but a circular aperture surives at the near edge of the integral plate which would have functioned as a pinhole. The plate is rectangular and flat. Two circular apertures would have functioned as rivet holes with now missing rivets. The piece is now distorted and bent out of shape.

A complete Medieval copper-alloy buckle frame dating to circa 1350-1400. The frame is suboval in plan and is bevelled on its inside edge such that it is sub-triangular in cross section the outer edge being convex. The frame thickens around its outer edge and has moulded decoration. A complete copper-alloy medieval buckle frame. It is sub-oval in shape with a thickened outer edge and a recessed and narrowed strap bar. Each outer corner of the outer edge projects slightly and its outer face is decorated with multiple transverse grooves, the central one slightly wider than the others. The pin is missing. A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy annular buckle dating to c. AD 1200-1450.The frame is circular-sectioned with an intact copper alloy pin looped around. The pin is rectangular-sectioned and tapers into a rounded point. It has a raised transverse rectangular collar at the top, by the loop. The frame and pin have a dark green patina and are somewhat abraded.  Similar buckles are depicted in Egan and Pritchard 1991: 58,

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy buckle with integral plate dating to circa AD 1250-1450. The object consists of a now broken, D-shaped rectangular-sectioned frame of which only the bar survives. Wrapped around the frame is a separately made plate with a folded edge wrapped around the bar. In the centre is a broadly oval cut out slot in which the now missing pin would have rested. The plate tapers inwards into a rounded terminal. At the terminal end in the centre is an empty circular rivet hole.

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy buckle dating to circa AD 1200-1500. The extant element consists of the incomplete pin from an annular buckle. Rectangular-sectioned, it terminates in an ancient break but would have tapered into a point. The outer face contains a projecting rectangular collar with five incised transverse grooves. The attachment end is hooked, to have been wrapped around the now missing buckle frame.   A similar example is recorded under SUR-AF0205.

A complete gilded copper-alloy buckle plate. The object is formed from a long strip folded in two, the outer section much longer and wider than the reverse. Square notches have been cut in the centre and to either side of the fold creating a gap for the pin. The outer surface is decorated with the faint remains of an engraved border and traces of gilding can be seen in places. A fragment of a copper-alloy early medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) buckle plate. Only the inner part of the plate survives. This is an irregular sub-triangular shape, tapering slightly towards a break at the outer end. Two narrow arms, c.4.8mm apart, project from the inner end, each with a small hole at its outer end positioned laterally to the plate. A fragment of a copper-alloy medieval buckle frame with composite forked spacer. A small section of the oval frame survives. Projecting from its inner end is one complete arm of a composite forked spacer. Originally there would have been two arms and separate sheet metal plates would have been attached to either face securing the strap with a pin between them.
