An incomplete large iron key which could be medieval in date. The bow is missing the stem is complete and the bit also survives, although due to corrosion it is unclear if this is complete or not. It measures 110.86mm in total length and the stem is 15.85mm in width, the bit is 38.66mm in width. The stem has a circular section and is hollow at the bit end. The bit projects at right angles from the underside of the stem and then has one rectangular tooth, which may be incomplete.

An incomplete iron corroded padlock key, most likely to be medieval circa 12th century in date, similar to examples from Winchester (Biddle 1990, 1024, fig 324). The key has an oval suspension loop at the head of the shaft, the shaft has a rectangular cross-section and a swollen middle. the bit is incomplete and broken and set at right angles to the shaft and has one surviving projection. It measures 81.21mm in length and is 8.91mm in width across the centre of the shaft and 16.48mm in width across the incomplete bit.

A probably early Anglo-Saxon iron spearhead, now corroded, the blade is bent and distorted. Spearheads were the most common weapon in Anglo-Saxon England and are often found in graves. They are made in one piece, the socket being forged flat and the folded around a mandrel to form the tube. The defining feature of Anglo-Saxon spearheads is their open sockets, in most other periods the joint is closed (Leahy 2003, 125-126). This example has an open socket and a lozenge sectioned blade. An incomplete iron blade, possibly from a sickle which could be Roman or later in date. The blade is curving and rectangular in shape, the thinner blade edge in on the inside of the curve. One face appears to have a worn longitudinal ridge along its centre and the over all cross-section is triangular. It measures 144.47mm in length and 19.09mm in width and 7.73mm in thickness.

an iron spur rowel.It is a star rowel with a diameter of 55mm, weighing 12.09g. It is incomplete, with parts of eight points remaining. These 'points' are oval in section, with rounded terminals visible on the three points which appear to be complete. There is corrosion over the whole object obscuring the central hole. Spur rowels were introduced in the thirteenth century and have continued in use into recent times. This example could date from anytime from the later 14th century onwards.

An incomplete iron medieval prick spur, it is most likely to be 12th-13th century in date. Only fragments of the sides and the neck and goad now survive. The sides are D-shaped in cross-section and curvilinear, they measure 42.92mm in length and 6.58mm in width. The neck is short, 6mm in length and 7.39mm in width, and the goad is a three dimensional lozenge shape, measuring 12.4mm in length and 10.5mm in width, it is 8.5mm in thickness.

Two incomplete iron corroded knife blades, which may have originally be part of the same blade, however, the break is now corroded and so no longer joins together. An iron possible Roman hob nail, with a conical head and a tapering square cross-sectioned shaft. The head measures 11mm in base diameter and c7mm in height. The shaft tapers to a point and curves upwards at its tip, it is c9mm in length and c3.5mm in width and thickness. The tang is 27.3mm in length, 7.3mm in width tapering towards its temrinal to 5.7mm in width, it is 4.8mm in thickness and has a rectangular cross-section. An iron arrowhead of medieval date which is likely to be of the London Museum type 14-15, which were exclusively designed for hunting (London Museum 1940, 66-70, fig 16, no 14-15). This arrowhead is barbed and socketed, it measures 63.67mm in length and 19.1mm in width, the tips of the barbs are missing. The socketed shaft has a circular cross-section and is 9.3mm in width. Barbed arrowheads were the norm for hunting from the 13th century onwards.

Iron nail, date unknown. This nail has a flat oval shaped head, which appears to be incomplete along one edge so may have been circular in shape orginally, and a square cross-sectioned shaft. Its terminal end is bent over at right angles to the shaft. It measures 29mm in length and 15mm in width across the head and 8mm in width across the shaft.

Roughly half of a cast iron cannon ball most likely to be circa 18th century in date. It is 85.5mm in diameter and weighs 1507g. An enquiry has been made to the Battlefields Trust and we are awaiting a reply. It is most likely to have been used for practise in the area it was found as no battles occurred there.

An iron rotary key most likely to be late medieval or post medieval in date, iron objects are very difficult to date due to corrosion. This key measures 105mm in total length, it has an oval shaped bow measuring 33mm by 28mm externally and 24mm by 19mm internally. The stem is worn and oval in cross-section, its tip projects beyond the bit. The bit is heavily corroded and rectangular in shape with two parallel rectnagular shaped teeth, now fused together due to corrosive products.

Large buckle with iron oval frame and copper alloy sleeve or plate doubled over pin bar. The frame is or was approximately semicircular or D-shaped, with a straight pin-bar, about 26.5mm from top to bottom and 20mm across the loop. Part of iron Plate-lock or similar locking device, probably from a large box. It is made of iron, and consists of a large shapeless plate some 60mm long by a maximum of 54mm width, about 3mm in thickness. Attached to this is an arching lug with rectangular hole, and also a smaller peg or lug at a distance of 35mm from the former. A bar 63mm long by 10mm broad and 6mm thick emerges from the leg, and has two shaped thickenings on its lower side which are presumably part of the locking mechanism. The larger is 145mm long by 127 mm wide, slightly pointed at front, the breadth being 42mm front, 39mm side, and forming into a keyhole-shape at rear with a narrow parallel accession between the two terminals being 31mm wide over a length of 31mm with distinctly angled internal returns. A complete unusual late early-medieval barrel-shaped weight. Measuring 23.3mm diameter and 18.5mm in height with a weight of 40.29g. This weight is made of iron with a copper-alloy casing, patches of corroded iron can now be seen through this casing. The flat ends of the weight appear to have stamped decoration on them consisting of two concentric circles of small circular motifs. A small annular brooch of probable 13th to 15th C. AD date* (see notes). The brooch appears to be made of iron, although this may be the result of staining from the pin. It measures 14.4mm in external diameter and is circular in section (diameter 1.9mm). The pin is made of an iron wire, measuring 15.3mm long by 1.1mm diameter. It has been attached by winding it once around the frame. The object weighs 0.99g and is badly corroded.
