Lead-alloy boy-bishop token dating from the late medieval period, i.e. c. AD1300-1600, commemorating the yearly election of a 'boy bishop' who would 'hold office' from Dec 6th to Dec 28th. The token is very similar to size and lay-out of silver groats of the 15th century. The obverse of the token depicts a bishop with mitre with a letter (illegible, possibly a Greek Omega) to the right and left of the bust. The inscription reads [SAN]CTE.NIMOLAE.[ORA.PRO.NOB]. The reverse shows a long cross dividing the legend, reading: AVE REX GNTIS ANGLORVM[ILE?] (Hail King of the English people) and…

Cu-alloy German jetton of Hans Schultes dating to the later medieval period, c. mid 16th century (c. 1553-1574). It was probably made in Nuremberg, Germany (that part of the legend is missing/obliterated). 16th century 'Nuremberg jettons' are amongst the most common, although earlier jettons (made in England, France and the Low Countries) are known. One of the most common designs on German jettons is the 'Reichsapfel' - the Imperial Orb. The earlier jettons had - like this one - meaningless legends, but later ones incorporated religious mottos. Ours includes both the name of the maker …

Fragment of a cast cu-alloy purse frame: one arm of a purse bar dating from the Late Medieval period, c. AD1475-1550. The fragment is of roughly cylindrical shape with a small smaller cylindrical terminal at one end - which was probably where it was attached to the centrepiece. The underside of the bar shows a thin line of cu-alloy with two perforations; this is where the purse/pouch would have been attached. Both perforations are extremely worn - probably worn through which would have rendered the purse useless in the end. The bar was decorated with a simple moulded (or possibly ?inla…
