Object type: BOW BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper alloy brooch fragment, Colchester derivative, probably double lug type. Lower bow and catchplate only, abraded. The bow is D-sectioned and mostly undecorated - transverse lines just below the break seem to be damage, but there may be a line at the foot. The catchplate has two nearly triangular holes (as jp7383) and a pin groove. Surviving length 30mm. Similar to a published example from Scole (Mackreth 1977, 130-131, no.4) which is suggested to date pre-AD 55 typologically.

Object type: PLATE BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Copper alloy plate brooch with white metal on surface. Pin broken, badly damaged around the edges and the catchplate. The pin is hinged between two close set lugs. The shape seems to be circular, with scalloped edges, and projections over hinge and catchplate - but it is possible that the scallops are the remains of circular holes in a larger circular brooch such as Hattatt no.513. The centre has a rivet stub and a sunken area which would have held an applique (and the white metal is absent here) bounded bu a notched rib. On the area over the hinge there are incised lines, and here and…
