An incomplete copper alloy knife hilt plate, dating to the medieval period AD 1100- AD 1400. The hilt is oval in shape and is rather flat. Originally, there would of have been a central tang hole, where the blade would have fed through. But presently, the perforation is filled with the fragment of the blade, which is heavily corroded. The diameter is 14.81mm, the height is 5.18mm, and the weight is 1.83g. Two similar examples can be found in Read (2001) "Metal Artefacts of Antiquity" page 88 Nos 642 and 644.
