Small tertiary, hard hammer struck spear or knife-like implement, of sub-triangular plan form and of patinated dark orange/brown flint. Both lateral edges are steeply retouched on the dorsal face, the platform has been removed by steep bifacial retouch, presumably to enable hafting. Possibly middle to late Palaeolithic.

A patinated blade point projectile of Early Upper Palaeolithic date. It is struck from a grey flint that is patinated dark yellow/orange to brown, particularly at the proximal(?) end. The blade is triangular in cross section, with parallel blade scars on the dorsal face and a hinge fracture at the distal(?) end. Both edges have limited flake removal that is perhaps the result of use wear or damage rather than deliberate retouch. At the proximal(?) end the dorsal face has invasive and low angled parallel flake removal, while the ventral face has extensive covering and scaled retouch. I…

a snapped longblade, of probable Upper Paleolithic date. It is an orange-brown flint, rectangular and 95.48mm in length (width between 37 and 45mm) weighing 65.69g. The longblade has retouch along one edge, with smaller areas of retouch along the other edge and the distal end fracture. The retouch could be the result of re-utilisation at a later date.

The butt end of an ovate or pointed hand-axe of Lower Palaeolithic date. The flint is dark grey in colour and has deep medium brown coloured staining on the surfaces and on the breaks, suggesting that the breaks are ancient. It has fine, shallow bifacial flaking on all surfaces leaving just three small areas of cortex visible. There is little evidence of rolling and no evidence of ploughmarks suggesting recent disturbance. The axe measures 96.31mm in length, 79.55mm in width, 30.35mm in thickness, and weighs 221.86g. This fragment is of Lower Palaeolithic date from between c.700,000 an…

A short patinated worked flint flake of probable Palaeolithic date. It has some orange/red staining and a prominent striking platform but apparently no bulb of percussion, although this may have been removed as parallel flake scars are visible on one face. It has limited edge retouch and measures 44.69mm in length, 39.43mm in width, 10.01mm in thickness, and weighs 20.87g.

An incomplete but large flint blade of Upper Palaeolithic to Neolithic date. It has a dark brown or grey flint that has been stained a variety of browns possibly due to deposition in a peaty soil. The blade is snapped at both ends, one of the breaks being modern and the other ancient, and has bifacial edge retouch. It measures 149.78mm in length, 52.40mm in width, 22.06mm in thickness, and weighs 153.15g.

Relatively heavily patinated thick flint biface which appears to have been 'rolled.' Oval in form with S-shaped side profile on one side. Probably Lower or middle Palaeolithic, ie 40,000-700,000 BC, but possibly re-deposited after re-use during the mesolithic or some later preiod.

Brown flint possibly iron stained, 73.62mm in length, 17.9mm wide. Upper Paleolithic to Neolithic. 2) Scraper, roughly circular, unpatinated with steep edge-retouch similar to a tortoise-core. 20.9mm x 18.25mm, 2.6mm in thickness. Probably Late Neolithic. 3)Small blade/ long flake, unpatinated, with rough retouch along one edge. 24.6mm x 11.55mm, Neolithic or Early Bronze Age 4) Small blade, lightly patinated with parallel blade scars on…

three prehistoric flint tools. 1) a deep brown patinated flint blade, with limited end retouch and slightly notched. It is 52.4mm in length and 18.80mm wide, broadening out to 31mm in width at the base. It weighs 7.36g. There is retouch and use wear along one edge, and there are parallel blade scars on the dorsal face. This blade probably dates to the Upper Paleolithic or Mesolithic periods. 2)an unpatinated black flake with 50% cortex, it is 36.98mm in length and 18.3mm wide, weighing 3.37g. It has parallel flake scars on the dorsal face, and is probably Neolithic or Early Bronze A…

A complete flint flake from a large core, or possibly from the edge of a large hand-axe. It is roughly oval in shape and measures 82mm in length, 51mm in width and is 17mm thick. There is one recent break exposing a medium to dark grey flint but the rest of this flake is stained with blotchy pale, medium and dark browns. This flake is most likely to be lower Palaeolithic in date.

Middle Palaeolithic Levallois core, knapped from very high quality dark black flint. The core has two convex faces. The upper surface has a considerable amount of flakes removed, leaving a large amount of flaking scars and impact ripples on the surface. There are patches of natural mid-grey cortex surviving on the outer edges of this surface. The other face has a bulb of percussion and there is a hinged fracture along part of the outer edge. This surface has only been worked around the edge, the majority of the surface remaining smooth with the exception of a few small scars. There is …
