A cast copper-alloy biface or double-sided coin weight of Post-Medieval date. It is square in shape, rectangular in section and hevily encrusted making identification of the type problematic. It appears to depict on the obverse St Michael spearing a dragon to the right. The reverse type is less clear, but appears to have a small hand at its centre, which would indicate probable production in Antwerp. The weight measures 14.68mm in length, 14.45mm in width, 3.33mm in thickness, and weighs 4.86g (75 grains). This is a continental coin weight produced in the Low Countries, probably at…

A very worn copper-alloy coin weight of uncertain date or type. It is uniface, circular in plan and has a relatively thick cross-section. On the front face are faint traces of moulded decoration, however these are so worn that it is no longer possible to identify their form. The entire object has a dark green patina. It measures 16.86mm in diameter, 4.22mm in thickness, and weighs 7.19g (111 grains). Round uniface coin weights such as this were utlised extensively and for a variety of different issues, notably for British and French denominations. The lack of detail on the front fa…
