An incomplete cast copper-alloy zoomorphic unidentified object of probable late Iron Age or early Roman date, c. 100 BC-AD 100. The object takes the form of a boar's head, being hollow and thus effectively socketed. Demonstrating a broadly circular section, it consists a straight shaft or neck that extends upwards before transitioning into the head of the animal, which is presented open-mouthed with large projecting elongated ears, raised circular eyes with a central recess and a tapering lipped snout. On the back of the boar's head extending from the mid-point of the neck are a serie…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of possible Iron Age or Roman date. One terminal end of the object survives, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. The terminal is heart-shaped in form with a central circular aperture. Each edge of the terminal has raised convex mouldings forming projecting borders on both faces, the centre of each edge having a shallower, almost pelta-shaped, moulding flaring at each end and separated from the borders by incised grooves. At the top centre of terminal where the two sides meet there is a notch with single transverse groove. Both sides of t…

An incomplete cast copper-alloy object of probable Iron Age date. One terminal end of the object survives, the remainder now missing due to old breaks. It is flat, semi-circular in form and tapering slightly towards old breaks, giving the impression that it may have been the terminal end of a larger object. The back face is flat and undecorated, while the front face has moulded and incised decoration. This comprises a grooved border that runs around the edge of the front face before turning inwards to create a transverse curved groove at the incomplete end creating a crescent shaped m…

A cast copper-alloy object of possible Iron Age date. It is formed from a rectangular plate of copper-alloy with moulded decoration on its exterior surface. Both ends of the plate are folded to meet at the centre of the back face, creating an oval shaped section with central oval aperture. At one end (top?) the back face has a small integrally cast cylindrical rivet, while the opposite (bottom?) end appears to terminate in old breaks where the two ends meet, but holds in place a separately cast cylindrical bar that extends horizontally through the aperture terminating in old breaks at…

An incomplete cast, unidentified object of Iron Age to Roman date, which appears to be the terminal of a larger object. When viewed with the complete end uppermost this terminal consists of a rectangular shaft with D-shaped section which has a horizontal lower edge which then curves upwards and inwards to rejoin the top of the horizontal part hence forming two opposing ovals with open centres. The tips of these are trapezoidal in shape before rejoining the upper edge of the horizontal part. The front face of the trapezoidal tips of the ovals have circular indentations, perhaps to h…

It is in the form of a four spoked wheel, with an incomplete but integrally cast sub-oval shaped attachment/stem(?) to one side that is now mostly missing due to old breaks. The 'wheel' is circular in form and section with four flat rectangular spokes that meet at a circular hub positioned at the centre of the object. both sides of the wheel are decorated with a row of punched dots. It is copper-alloy with a dark brown patina, it is crescent shaped in side profile and a pointed oval shape in plan. It measures 45.68mm in length and 26.25mm in width, it is 10.69mm in depth. The side arms of the T-shape are oval in cross-section and have flattened knops at their terminals. The shaft is rectangular in plan and measures 35.5mm in surviving length and 11.3mm in width, it is c6.8mm in thickness. The shaft curves downwards slightly towards the incomplete terminal. A copper-alloy unidentified probably Iron Age object. This object consists of three circular discs, each measuring c10mm in diameter and c4mm in thickness, which are arranged in an overall triangular shape with the two opposing discs, forming the base of the 'triangle' joined by an integral curvilinear bar. The object measures c18mm by c22mm in total size. The front faces of the three discs are decorated with an indented ring and dot motif. The back face is flat and undecorated. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy unidentified object, incomplete due to old breaks. This fragment is curvilinear and was presumably roughly circular in plan when complete with a central circular perforation. It measures 26mm in length and 14mm in width, it is 15mm in thickness. It is likely to have measured c30mm in external diameter when complete with a central perforation of c20mm. It has a roughly triangular cross-section, it would have been biconical in shape. There is a raised moulded ridge around the edge of the central perforation. The original function of this object is …

An incomplete copper-alloy unidentified object. This object consists of an curvilinear rectangular cross-sectioned shaft, measuring 32.3mm in length and 5.5mm in width and 6.6mm in thickness. Two longitudinal border grooves can be seen running along the edges of the outer face of the shaft. Such grooves may have also have existed on the other faces, these are however more worn and no decoration can be seen. One end of this shaft is incomplete due to an old break and the other is integral to a curvilinear flat roughly triangular shaped fragment, with old breaks on two of the three edg…

A copper-alloy unidentified object, it is circular in plan and slightly conical in shape, measuring 18mm in diameter and 11mm in thickness, at its centre which is its thickest point. There is a circular perforation through the centre of the object, measuring 4mm in diameter. On the back face this protrusion opens into a larger circular hole with a diameter of 8mm, it seems likely that this object was attached to another at this point. The front face of this object is decorated with a tripartite, most likely originally red, enameled design. JD Hill of the British Museum believes that t…

Incomplete cast copper-alloy object of unknown date and function. It is long and thin, and in excellent condition, with a very fresh break at one end and what appears to be an animal head at the other. At the broken end it is almost pentagonal in section, with four facetted faces and the fifth filled with a U-shaped groove. The apex of the pentagon has tiny transverse nicks and this forms the back of the animal's neck; the nicks may represent a mane. The grooved underside is almost flat, but the back of the neck is more steeply humped into a brow, with a conical ear or horn projec…
