A worn, undecorated and incomplete copper alloy Colchester one piece brooch dating from late Iron Age to Roman (c. AD 25 - 60). The arched bow is D-shaped in cross-section, measures 4.8mm maximum width, 2.8mm thickness at the head and tapers to 1.2mm width, 0.9mm thickness at the foot. Overall length is 35.6mm. The wings have been reduced by wear and corrosion to two sub-conical stubs measuring a total width of 8.2 mm and behind them is an upwardly curving stub which is all that remains of the integrally-cast spring mechanism.
