Obverse depicting diademed head right in serpent circle; reverse type has a serpent circle (starting at 7 'o clock) enclosing a bird facing right on latin cross with an annulet at the end of both short arms of the cross; a greek cross in the left field before the bird. Probably East Anglia mint. The coin has a pale gold appearence. It has been probably clipped; the edges are flattened and there are no traces of the legends. Cf. Abramson ( 1994, p. 66, no. Abramson, 94, no.A050; Metcalf 1993, 108-9; North vol.I, 36, no.40 With thanks to Tony Abrahamson (pers. com.) for his identification: 'This is a variant of the extremely rare A1, type 2a, reading TIIC before the bust instead of the usual TIC. The reverse is a little anomolous with the tufa at the wrong side of the votive standard, suggesting that it may be an 'unofficial' issue…
