Unusual copper-alloy probable contemporary forgery of a voided long cross silver penny. There seems to be small traces of a silver coating which has now flaked off revealing the copper-alloy coin beneath. The coin is worn and little can be deciphered except the characteristic voided long cross on the reverse face.

An incomplete silver early medieval anonymous Anglo-Scandinavian (Viking) penny, dating to the period c. AD 905-19. St. Peter of York Phase 1 swordless/two-line type (North 551), mint: York. Ref: North 1994: 116; Gooch 2014 (in Naismith, Allen and Screen eds 2014: 459-70). The blundered legends suggest this is a later variety of the type.
