An early-medieval base silver penny of Alfred the Great of Wessex (871-99), Lunettes type (c.871-5; obverse Lyons and Mackay group 1 variant II; reverse: Lunettes C), moneyer: Biarnmod at uncertain southern mint. North 627 (lunettes broken at angles). Ref: North 1994; Lyons and Mackay 2008: 44; 46-7. A small piece of the flan has broken away in old damage.
