A medieval silver groat of Edward IV (first reign; 1461-70), Light Coinage (1464/5-70), mint: London, initial mark: crown (obv), sun (rev), North 1571. Ref: North 1991: 87. The flan is irregular in shape and possibly clipped. The obverse features the front facing bust of Edward IV, with a quatrefoil each side of the neck. A Crown mint mark is just visible at 12 o clock. The coin weighs 2.9g and is 25.58mm in diameter. The reverse features a long cross with three pellets in each central quarter, there is a star at 9 o clock.

Object is a counterfeit of a Charles I Half Crown. The coin is complete but showing signs of corrosion and wear, and the corroded metal core can clearly be seen through the exterior silver plating (Evidence of a counterfeit coin). The coin is very worn and parts of it have chipped off. It is coloured very dark grey. A long cross is visible on the reverse with a group of three pellets in each angle. The obverse presumably features a monarch face on but only a crown can be seen. Because of the three pellets and long cross design, this coin cannot have been minted later than the reign of Henry VIII.

This coin is complete and appears to have a she wolf with twins image struck on one side though it is not very clear. It is a dark grey colour with green discolouration. Found by metal detecting.
