An incomplete Post Medieval copper-alloy handle from a knife dating to circa AD 1600-1650. Cast in two pieces, the extant element consists of a moulded male figure wearing a hat and playing a bagpipe. The figure surmounts a rectangular-sectioned socket which terminates in an old break. Both faces of the socket are decorated with a foliate design which is now heavily barded. A similar more complete example is recorded under NMS-03A28B highlighting that the foliate design on the socket faces would have been inlaid with enamel.
