Description: Eastern British Iron Age gold stater of Cunobelin, minted at Colchester (type: ABC 2786 / BMC 1809). Obverse: CA_MV flanking corn ears. Reverse: Horse leaping right over CVNO. Neatly pierced with an oval perforation measuring c. 2 x 2.4mm, placed at approximately 4 o'clock (obverse) and 9 o'clock (reverse). Another failed attempt at piercing from the obverse is visible slightly below and to the left of the hole. An uninscribed gold stater of the East Anglian region dating c. 50-20 BC, Rudd's 'Norfolk Wolf left' type, ABC 1399. C.f also BMC nos 261, 264 and 269. Norfolk Wolf type staters demonstrate multiple minor variations of the reverse type (mainly entailing the symbols between the legs of the wolf), and thus an exact parallel is difficult to pin down.
