A near complete cast copper alloy and iron sprung Birdlip type brooch of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date (c. 30-60 AD). The brooch is undoubtedly of Birdlip Type but is not well paralleled in Mackreth (2011) and appears to lack the typical upturned “beak/tongue”. The brooch is in good condition and nearly intact- the only missing element is the iron pin and spring mechanism, attested solely by iron corrosion product left on the lug. The now absent spring was secured by a single sturdy (3.3mm wide by 8.2mm long) perforated lug, now both partially covered and filled by iro…

An incomplete cast copper alloy vessel mount, possibly a bucket escutcheon of (probably later) Iron Age to early Roman date (c. 150 BC-AD 100). The object is incomplete, missing part of the left attachment lobe and an uncertain length of the hooked rear projection. The integrally cast object has a broadly trilobed form in plan, with two symmetrical comma-shaped perforated attachment lobes at the base (the left lobe is incomplete) and a larger upper lobe forming a suspension loop (maximum internal diameter 8.mm). The attachment lobes are thinner (c. 2.7mm thick) and set slightly at an …

An incomplete cast copper alloy Langton down brooch of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date (c. 25-60 AD). The brooch is likely of Mackreth Type LD 3a (2011, Pg.34, plate 20, No 6484). The brooch consists of the intact bow with rounded foot, wings and spring. The pin has broken off just as it leaves the spring mechanism, and the openwork catchplate is evident only as two broken sheet stubs projecting from the back of the bow. The wings are nearly cylindrical and uneven, having been hammered thin and worked almost all the way around the top and bottom of the spring, which is still held…

Roman copper alloy harness-ring probably of 1st century AD date The harness-ring is heavily-corroded but is near-complete, with some damage to the stud (with a weight of 12.6g). The ring is circular (with an external diameter of 31.7mm, an internal diameter of 20.8mm) and also of circular section (up to 5.3mm diameter). The corrosion makes it difficult to identify wear facets on the ring but part of the ring, nearly opposite the stud is narrower than other areas (at 4.2mm).
