An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Aethelred II (978-1016), minted by Eadsige at Winchester and dating to the period c. 979-985. North first hand type, fig. 1 (BMC iia, Hild. B1). North 2006, Vol 1: no. 766.
Obverse: +EÐELRED REX ANGLOX; Diademed bust right.
Reverse: +EADSIGE M-O PINTONI; Hand of Providence issuing from clouds; at sides: A [ω]? pellet above hand.
The coin is 20.2mm in diameter, and weighs 1.42g.

An incomplete cut silver halfpenny of Aethelred II (AD 978-1016), a 'Last Small Cross' type dating from c. AD 1009-1017. The style of the obverse bust suggests that the coin was struck either at one of the south-western mints (see North 1994:160-161 figure 4), or at Winchester. North N777.
