An incomplete enamelled copper alloy headstud brooch variant, of Roman dating (AD 75 to AD 200). Around 75% of the brooch remains, the spring, pin and part of the catch plate are missing, along with some of the decorative elements, presumed lost in antiquity. The wings are semi-cylindrical with wing caps. The wing caps have a hole in the centre which would support the axis bar. There are remains of an iron axis bar in one hole, the other is incomplete. The interior of the wings has iron staining. In the centre of the upper edge of the wings is the remains of a small hook. Roman dolphin type brooch, copper alloy, probably 1st century. Concave back to head and wings, possibly indicative of springe type hinge. Very plain long bow. Incomplete with all of spring, pin, catchplate and foot missing. Short wings, one has notch in top. Fair condition although incomplete.

The brooch was probably originally circular in plan. However, the edges of it are now heavily abraded and the brooch is a sub-oval shape in plan. The upper surface of the brooch has a circular central cell within a high relief annulet. The field outside of the annulet is a circular ring shaped cell which is incompletely filled with red enamel. The reverse of the brooch is undecorated and has the remains of parrellel lugs on one edge, and a single lug opposite, which was probably originally the catchplate. The patina is a light green colour.

The brooch is fragmentary and quite an unusual brooch. The bow head is a flat triangular shape. However the edges are heavily abraded so this may not be the original size and shape. The outer surface of the bow head has three cells.
