3 Spiers Winkle spindle whorl Cast lead weight, possibly a spindle whorl. Circular in plan with a slightly off-centre perforation. Pointed-oval shaped in profile. Mass: 35.4g; external diameter: 28.1mm; internal diameter: 10.8mm; depth: 10.3mm. One side is decorated with wavy and straight ridges radiating outwards. The other side is decorated with two raised squares and a set of ?pellets and ridges around the four edges of the outer square.

Lead bale seal, Russian, late eighteenth or early nineteenth century. Mass: 11.3g, diameter: 21.8mm, thickness: 4.5mm. Sub-circular in plan with some loss of material around the perimeter. Front and reverse are inscribed with cyrillic text.
In: ‘Lead Seals of Russian Origin in Fife", John Sullivan (2000) notes that the inscriptions may relate to the port of origin, contents of the bales they sealed, and initials or names of owners and inspectors responsible for quality control.

An incomplete lead papal bulla, probably of Urban III (1185-1187) or Urban IV (1216-1264). Mass: 10.2g; length: 31.2mm; width: 20.1; thickness: 4.2mm. The fragment, almost half of a papal bulla, is sub-semi-circular, with the straighter edge being a break. The papal bulla has a brown/off-white surface, which covers the break. Therefore the break does not appear to be recent. On the front of the papal bulla there is an (incomplete) inscription which reads: U[]/BA[]/P[] over three lines, with a pellet border around the curved edge. A slightly uneven cast lead die of three-dimensional cuboid shape (14.4mm x 14.5mm; weight: 30.92g). Each side shows a number from 1-6 that have been incised as single dots to a depth of approximately 1mm. There is one deep cut/ damage mark on the side with 5 dots. The die is in a slightly worn but fair condition.
It is difficult to date dice as they appear in all periods, but Mills suggests that the more conventional Roman dice were made of bone or lead (see Mills, 'Celtic & Roman Artefacts', 2000, page 113, Ref no RB356). However, many examples of excavated dice from Roman sit…
