The object is sub-triangular in form and D-shaped in section. At the top are two rounded lobes with a circular aperture in each. Below the lobes is a rounded collar from which extends the body of the object that curves inwards and then rounds. Extending from the main body is an incomplete sub-rectangular projection that terminates in a worn break - this is likely an incomplete hook. The object is undecorated and has a dark green and brown patina.

Worn and bent coins such as this one are often described as 'love tokens'. Dr Kevin Leahy notes in FAKL-A043BC: 'Love tokens' were made using coins dating from the time of Elizabeth I (1558-1603) to the reign of Ann (1702-1714) with some Georgian examples. They were particularly common in the reign of William III (1694-1702). They are not uncommon finds but their significance is not understood. While 'love tokens' should be inscribed with the name of the person loved most of these defaced coins are uninscribed. Bending coins as part of an oath is an ancient practice but did not involve them being defaced. These coins may have been carried as good-luck charms but few of them are perforated for suspension, the usual way of wearing a charm.3636169517024LVPL2024-02-27T14:58:58Z2024-03-25T14:05:55Z1.65PAS65DDF8B2001FE319.60.7122142141431435521250543552Cheshire West and ChesterCheshire West and ChesterCrowtonSJ587353.2523388-2.63095502bands.shops.handy6LVPL-DF8FDA22983334519Laureate, draped bust facing right[GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA]Crowned shields of England, Scotland, France and Ireland arranged in a cruciform; lion of Nassau at centre[MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX ...].6SixpenceWilliam III of EnglandWilliam_III_of_EnglandSilver11728Struck or hammeredCompletePOST MEDIEVALx41047POST MEDIEVALx41047x41047Metal detectorReturned to finderLVPL-DF8B2F_660184a8de612.jpg1269354images/heatherbeeton/ModernSixpence: William III (S 3520 - 3548)North WestCertain12024-03-25T14:05:55.592Zfinds-11529801152980LVPL-DF723ASTRAP FITTINGPOST MEDIEVALAn incomplete copper alloy strap fitting, dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1600-1800).

Metal vessels such as ewers, skillets and cauldrons would have been costly items, and as such repairs would be made if they suffered damage. This may account for metal legs being found in fields as the old legs may have been discarded when being replaced.
