Object type: POT
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire West and Chester
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A copper alloy pot leg of late medieval or early post-medieval date. The foot is smooth and rounded, the outer surface of the leg having three ridges between two incuse channels. The back is unornamented and plain. The former attachment point to the main vessel is smooth, with no visible signs of a rough break. This may be due to the corroding and smoothing effect of acidic soil chemistry, however. Pot legs of this type are often cast in a copper alloy that contains a significant amount of lead, although there is no evidence of that in this example.
