One face is flat with a central curvilinear groove and light areas of pitting, possibly caused by a needle. The reverse is slightly convex with the same central curvilinear line. A complete copper-alloy strap end of post medieval date (c.AD 1650-1750). The frame of the object is multifoil, consisting of 12 rounded lobes and it has a recessed cylindrical bar on the obverse. This style of decoration was popular in the post-medieval period, particularly on buckles as shown in Whitehead’s Buckles (2003) no. 282. An incomplete dagger or sword of medieval date (c.AD 1200-1400). The object is a flattened sphere with a square hole on its upper hemisphere with a diameter of 9.9mm, and a smaller pointed oval hole on its lower hemisphere with a width of 8.3mm. These are the wholes of the pommel through which the tang of the blade would have been placed. Dimensions: Diameter 24.1mm, Thickness 17.9mm, Weight 12.49g. A complete, cast, copper-alloy bridle-bit of possible iron age to Roman date (c.BC 300 - AD 200). The object is comprised of two interlocking bridle bits. Each bridle bit is made up of an elongated central cylindrical bar with two projecting integral loops on each end. One of the loops where the bridle bits interlock is damaged, having a linear incision through it at its apex, however, it has not damaged the integrity of the loop. A possible Roman miniature votive axegead. It is cast in lead. The body of the axe is sub retangular but about half way down the total length it opens to a wide flat blade, extending further down one side than the other. The blade is stil pointed although the underside of the axe is quite coarsly moulded or has suffered some post casting damage. There is no sign of an attempt to put a hole for the stave through it. An incomplete copper alloy surveyor's chain link, or Gunters link, used to indicate an interval on a land surveyor's measuring chain. It is flat with three pointed projections or teeth. At the top of the plate is an incomplete circular attachment loop. The object has a dark grey-green patina. Surveying chains were used to measure parcels of land; this object may be linked to enclosure. Suggested date 1750 - 1850. A more complete example which can be found on the PAS database is DENO-696B32 .
