An incomplete Post Medieval lead alloy (pewter) military button of the 3rd Foot Guards "Scots Guards" dating from AD1775-1800. This is an enlisted man's cast 1-piece button. The front of the button has the Order of the Thistle. 3 and G with a thistle between, within a cross with points in angles made up of different length radiating lines. Lead possible shot. A cast object comprising a strip or sprue of width 5mm with a series of seven peloidal balls, each of diameter 4mm and each at the end of a conical ingate. The strip is broken at one end and melted at the other. Patinated. This might be an expedient to cast birdshot or a blunderbuss or shotgun charge of pellets; a mechanical function seems unlikely given the soft nature of the material. Roman copper alloy brooch that is a hybrid between a Polden Hill and a Wirral style. The pin mounting is in the polden Hill style, consisting of rearward facing lugs on either end of the wings that would have held the pin axis bar which is now missing. The bow of the brooch is in the Wirral style and consists of a double rectangular cell covering the top quarter, which contains traces of a red or orange enamel. Two angled low protrusions flank the apex of the bow and a shallow double grove running down the centre of the lower half completes the decoration. Date 75-175AD

A cast copper alloy buckle plate of later Roman date (Hawkes and Dunning (1961) type IIB), dating to, c. AD 250 - 400. The plate is rectangular with three rectangular perforations and a rivet hole at each corner. The sides and rear edge have decorative cusped borders. There is a ridge across the front end behind a pierced pin articulation and small bar which retains a copper alloy pin. The integrally cast frame has broken away and been lost.

A fragment of an Anglo-Scandinavian cast copper strap-end (cf. Thomas Class E, Type 4) made from a single plate of cast copper alloy. The rear end has broken off. The body of the object is tongue-shaped and decorated with a complex double-stranded insular Borre style ‘vertebral ring-chain’ interlace motif. The reverse is undecorated.

Copper alloy brooch. Cast umbonate plate brooch, as kindly identified by the finder who cites SWYOR-530E36 as a parallel; Mackreth type British Plate 7.a. A central projecting boss is surrounded by four symmetrically disposed oval cells which may retain enamel – if so of a probably blue tint - and are confined by a border. The boss is surrounded by a deep gutter. Outside this, a further border confines a series of eleven semi-circular cells, each apparently retaining a triangular plate of dull possibly blue enamel – it does not ‘flow’ to fill the available cells…

It is possible that other features were set opposite, where two surface irregularities may be either stubs from another handle or casting flaws. Copper alloy probable buckle plate fragment. A trapezoid sheet metal fragment, straight-sided, with a large [diameter 4.5mm] if slightly ragged hole at its broader end, where it is broken.
