A complete cast lead spindle whorl, dating from the Medieval - Post Medieval period, between AD 1400 - 1600 (diameter: 25.5mm; thickness: 8mm; weight: 26.4g).
This spindle whorl is circular in plan and bi-conical in section with a central circular drilled hole (diameter of hole: 8.5mm) for the probable wooden spindle to run through. The artefact appears to be faintly decorated on both sides with possible linear and pellet decoration, although the artefact is too worn to identify this clearly. The spindle whorl is in a worn and poor condition.

It has a curved suspension loop at the top, formed from a strap of lead, and is pierced in the centre of the base. The lead has a white patina, of varying thickness.

Post Medieval cloth seal; very thin, circular, lead seal with torn section at the top where the back half has broken away. Seal has a raised oval section with the initials "I B" and a delicate twisted knot design between and around the letters. The reverse has some letters scratched rather crudely into its surface. The inscription is not clear, but may read 'et 9' above a horizontal line to the right of the seal. The style of lettering and design would seem to date this to the late 16th or 17th century.
