Complete silver finger-ring with a large circular hoop. The somewhat wider bezel is divided into three unevenly shaped fields, each decorated with a silver Maltese cross. The areas surrounding the Maltese crosses are filled with black/dark grey niello of which only a small amount is missing. The three main fields are separated by four smaller, rectangular-shaped fields which were engraved with crude horizontal lines. The finger-ring dates to the 12th century. A very similar but less crude example was found near Tysoe, Warwickshire (2004 T 494). It was subsequently discussed and pub…

Medieval ring; Silver finger ring of probable 12th century date. Large ring formed of a thin, flat band of rounded rectangular cross-section which expands at the front into three thinner, flat, oval bezels. The band of the ring has incised lines separating each bezel from the rest of the ring and there are an extra two incised lines at the either end of the row of three bezels. The band of the ring has a rough area at the back which suggests that the …

A Medieval finger-ring made from a length of twisted wire, which has been hammered together at the back to form a hoop. The ring is of a type known from Viking and Anglo-Saxon contexts, which persist into the twelfth century, see the Larkhill hoard at the British Museum for a similar example (P&E 1854, 0820.6). This example is much inferior to the Larkhill ring. However it would appear to be of comparable age. The ring is silver, and dates from the twelfth century.

A Medieval signet ring with a circular bezel containing the image of a bird plucking a flower. Above the head of the bird is the following inscription: I FFYNCHR This is likely to denote a personal name, J Fincher, the bird, or finch, acting as a rebus. Fragment of a silver-gilt finger ring comprising an oval bezel, in which would have once been set a gemstone, and a small section of both shoulders. From the parts of the shoulders that are visible, the hoop appears to have had circular decoration and it is on these parts of the ring that traces of gilding can be seen. In the absence of any clear distinguishing features to suggest the ring has a dating to pre-1707, this ring is classed as not Treasure.

A Post Medieval gold finger ring - memento mori (1670-1740). The plain thin gold band is engraved on the exterior with a skull and inscribed inside in lower case: 'Remember to dye', with a maker's mark GB in a quatrefoil shield with a pellet above and below. This type of ring had a long life from around 1670 to the 1730s, but as the mark is not listed in the standard London goldsmiths' marks sources, it is not possible to confirm a pre-1708 date for this ring.
