Silver medieval cut long cross penny of Henry III. Moneyer: Ion (Jon) Mint: Bury St Edmunds. Due to the nature of the cut penny a sub type / class is difficult to identify. However, I feel that this should be best described as a penny of Class IIIa (or possibly Class II) which is dated 1248-50 AD. The reasons for the claisification is the lack of lines on the side of the head indictating a neck, the positioning of the inscription which is rather spread suggesting the Class III which reads HENRICVS REX III, rather than that of class II, HENRICVS REX TERCI.
