An incomplete cast copper alloy Roman horse brooch. The brooch is in the shape of a stylised horse with Romano-British styled decoration in the form of blocks of enamel, but has a realistic shaped head, if slightly simplified. The head has a circular cell representing an eye. There is a moulded mane, but with no fine detail of the hair, instead there is a slender cell which was originally filled with enamel, and is further decorated with fine obliquely angled ridges along on the upper edge of the cell. A cast copper alloy buckle. The buckle frame is a ā€˜dā€™ shape in plan with an off-set strap bar. The strap bar is separate from the frame, and the terminals of the frame have a perforation through which the strap bar is positioned. The terminals of the strap bar, on the exterior have a domed shaped washer before the strap bar terminal has been hammered and rounded to remain in place. A cast copper-alloy Early Medieval or Post Medieval strap fitting: mount. In plan the object is a sub-rectangular with pointed narrow terminals and a slightly waisted band in the centre. The upper surface of each terminal has an off-set triangular platform. In the centre of the mount is a high-relief rectangular platform with an oval perforation either side. The reverse is hollow beneath each platform and has three incomplete broken oval sectioned studs. A Russian cast lead or lead alloy seal which has stamped lettering on both faces. In plan it is sub-oval. In section it is a sub-rectangular with rounded corners, and there are two parallel holes running the length of the seal. The obverse face has ā€˜A4 / [ ]A[ ] / [ ]H[ ] / [ ]. The reverse reads ā€˜ :NP / MC[ ] / [ ]. The surface of the seal has a mid beige/grey patina which is abraded and recently scuffed. The seal measures 23.27mm long, 19.84mm wide and 5.55mm thick. A wheel made ceramic body sherd of an unknown vessel. The fabric is slightly soft, with a reduced grey core and oxidised orange surfaces. The exterior has a red/brown coloured slip applied and appears to have been burnished. Other decoration includes a row of rouletting. The sherd weighs 3.6g.
