Object type: TOKEN
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Thurrock
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Post Medieval cast copper alloy token with the arms of the City of London on one side. On the other side, a fortified building, looks like Norwich Castle. It is probably 16th to 17th century in date. It is 27.38mm in diameter and weighs 8.2 grams. Hazel Forsythe (Museum of London) commented that although there is no direct parallel, it is likely that the token was commissioned by someone who had trade links with London and Norwich and wanted to emphasise those links with a trade token.
