Post medieval copper alloy saddle pommel of 16th or 17th century date
The pommel is fragmentary, represented by an half, now distorted (with a length of 55.6 mm and a weight of 21.3g). The pommel was of two-piece construction, soldered across its midsection. The domed pommel is hollow and of sub-circular section (with a slightly flattened diameter of 25mm, an internal diameter of 22mm and is up to 2.0mm thick). Three pieces of copper alloy casting debris found together of uncertain date
The casting waste comprises a casting jet and two pieces of dross. The casting jet is of conical form (with a maximum diameter of 26.0mm, a length of 14.0mm and a weight of 28.5g) The underside of the jet has three runner stubs, now truncated but appear comparatively slender (with a diameter of 4mm). The upper surface is concave and undulating.
The dross is irregular (weighing 19.1g and 16.0g) and one of the pieces is wedge-shaped and may be a fragment but has lost all the original surface.

The cast brooch is of annular type and is near-complete, missing the pin but is now slightly distorted (with a diameter of 41.6mm – 42.6mm and a weight of 16.2g). The frame is of rectangular section (2.1mm – 2.6mm thick and 10.1mm – 11.3mm wide, producing an internal diameter of 19.8mm). The cast mount is of annular form and is near-complete, (with a diameter of 34.9mm – 35.4mm and a weight of 10.0g). The circular frame is of rectangular section (2.4mm thick and 5.4mm – 7.2mm wide, producing an internal diameter of 22mm). Lead-tin alloy decorative mount, probably of late medieval date, c. 14th or 15th century
The cast mount is of annular, ring-form (with an external diameter of 15.0mm, an internal diameter of 15.4mm and a weight of 3.9g). The ring is of U-shaped section (with a width of 4.9mm and a maximum thickness of 5.2mm), hollowed on the rear. The face is decorated with a series of raised cast pellets. There are no obvious attachment holes on the ring mount and it is possible that there were integral rivets, now damaged and lost. The surface is corroded with a dark-grey patina.

The cast button is of domed form with an integral square loop and is complete (with a weight of 15.8g). The domed head (with a diameter of 30.3mm – 34.8mm and a thickness of 5.7mm) has a ribbed border flanked on each side with a groove and at the apex is a raised knop. An incomplete lead decorative object of Post-Medieval to Early Modern date (c. AD 1800-1900). The object is sub-oval in plan measuring 47.6mm x 41.2mm x 6mm. The front of the object is decorated in a stamped armorial decoration of the royal shield with traces of the legend [HONI SOIT] QUI MAL [Y PEN]SE which translates to ‘May he be shamed who thinks badly of it’. This was the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter (founded in AD 1438). A silver post-medieval groat of Mary I (1553-1554), minted at the Tower of London, 1553-1554 (North 1960). The coin has creases on it suggesting that it was folded and has been unfolded and flattened by the finder. It is unclear if this folding was intentional or caused by movement in the plough soil.
