An incomplete cast copper alloy figurine in the form of a probable lion eating a man, dating from the Roman period, between AD 43 – 410 (length: 51mm; width: 25.5mm; thickness: 15mm; weight: 45.98g). It is difficult to suggest whether this artefact may have been mounted onto a separate object or what it may have been broken from. The artefact is likely to be displayed on its side with the lion on top of the man whose head it is eating. The lion is plainly cast with one of its legs partly missing. An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester probable Dolphin brooch, dating to the 1st/ 2nd century, between AD 43 - 200 (length: 57.5mm; width at wings: 19.5mm; thickness/ depth: 14.5mm; weight: 9.7g). Bayley and Butcher (see bibliography below) have classified this type of brooch has having a hinged pin ‘in a long crossbar, the bow arched in a single curve’ [page 89].
