When viewed in plan it is essentially rectangular, but with the upper long side having the corners inverted, so that the frame extends into a short ‘neck’ section. The frame has been finished with a file and the marks are clearly visible. The front face of the handle is decorated with a running series of incised stars, the reverse is plain. The handle is suspended from a moulded knob. The knob has a short flared neck, from which (at the narrow end) extends the drop shaped main body. The knob is bev…

An incomplete Medieval-Post Medieval copper alloy mount, dating to the 15th-17th century. The object is in the form of a stretched oval with traces of a raised rim on the reverse, which would have housed the end of the strap. The front is decorated with two crossed lines, which would have been mirrored on the other side to form a central lozenge. Within the central lozenge is a quatrefoil with eight lines radiating from it. There are pellets in the middle of four of the lines (at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock). There appears to be traces of decoration in the triangles formed at the end of…

Lithic implement, likely a scraper, of light grey flint. The item is roughly square shaped and trapezoidal in section. The ventral face features a prominent bulb of percussion, whilst the dorsal face shows flake removals across much of the surface. A removal along the distal edge (viewed dorsally) allow it to slop downward, ending in a sharp edge. De Jersey writes: "The hoard was found on 2 February 1985 - initially one coin and then another thirty-two about 15 cm deeper, with the remains of a pottery vessel. This is described as "a wide-mouthed, shouldered bowl" (Haselgrove 1989, 12), handmade, of a type "current before the mid first century BC" (Cowell et al. 1987, 2). It is presumed to have been the container.
