A copper alloy pin, possibly of Saxon date. The pin comprises an onion shaped head. The head is decorated with a series of notches arranged in a cross shape. Where the head meets the stem, there is a circumferential groove. The stem is circular in section and tapers to a point. It is bent slightly half way down the stem. The pin has a length of 86mm. The head has a diameter of 7mm. The stem has a diameter of 3mm.

A cast copper-alloy pelta-shaped plate brooch of Roman date, c. AD 100-200. The brooch is incomplete, missing the tips of the wings of the pelta and the terminal of the stem as well as the hinged pin on the reverse. The pelta-shape is nearly circular, with U-shaped notches missing between the wing-tips and the incomplete stem. The face is decorated with cells, most of which retain enamel infills. A complete lead spindle whorl dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1200 to 1500. The object is circular in plan with a diameter of 24.66mm. There is a hole in the centre which in turn has a diameter of 9.70 mm. The spindle whorl is biconvex in section. Both faces of the spindle whorl are decorated with raised pellets but due to wear the arrangement is unclear.

The reverse depicts a crowned harp suggesting the coin is Irish. The legend readsTVEATVR VNITA DEVS which means May God guard these United (Kingdoms). A similar example is recorded in 'Coincraft's standard catalogue of the coins of Scotland, Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man' on page 203.

A copper alloy crotal or rumbler bell. The bell has a maximum diameter of 33.48mm; it has a rectangular suspension loop with a semi-circular aperture, which has broken away from the body of the bell. The upper hemisphere is plain; the lower hemisphere is decorated with an engraved sunburst design and the initials 'ES'. The initials indicate that the bell was manufactured by Edward Seller or his son in York between 1678 and 1780.

In 1895 the land within the south-east angle was cleared of older buildings and a well lined with masonry was found. It was examined by Mr. W.S.
