A copper sestertius of Philip I the Arab, dating to the period 244 AD- 249 AD, (Reece Period 12). Obverse legend reads ' IMP VL PHILIPPUS AVG'. Reverse legend reads 'PMSC' with 'ANVIII' across the bottom of the coin. The 'PMSC' is an abbreviation of Provinciae Moesiae Superioris Colonia Viminacium. The numerals indicate that the coin was minted in the eighth year of Roman colonial rule in Moesia Superior.The obverse features a laureate, draped, and curiassed bust of Philip I.
