Cast silver hat hook, circular head with a cabled edge surrounding a raised heart above which is an oval hole. Soldered to the underside is a sharply pointed, S shaped hook, now crushed flat against the plate. This follows the line of a small projection on the edge of the disc.
This object is related to a well known group of sixteenth century dress fittings which Gaimster et. al. (2002, 157-196) described as 'cap hooks'. Iron Age strap fitting consisting of three linked 'petal bosses' each containing an annular setting surrounded by a deep groove. In the centre of each setting is a ring of what appears to white champlevé enamel surrounding a circular setting containing pale green glass. Between the petal bosses is a 'muzzle' motif which expands from a 'plump' to a 'slender' form. Beneath the muzzle is a rectangular plate one edge of which is grooved.
