201 Aldin Grange pottery fragments. Of the 201 fragments, 41 are diagnostic, including 20 rim sherds. Aldin Grange pottery was produced in the mid-14th to mid-15th century in what is now Bearpark Civil Parish. Evidence for medieval pottery manufacture in Durham county is not prolific, with Aldin Grange representing one of few relatively large-scale pottery works.

Cast copper-alloy belt fastener complete with one loop.
The fastener is serpent shaped with a head at either end.
There is moulded decoration on all sides including the facial features and scales covering both necks. In the centre where the two necks join there is a band with leaf decoration to either side.
The loop is 19.11mm in diameter.

A cast copper-alloy double-framed buckle of early post-Medieval date.
Each frame is D-shaped in plan, with a widening of the outer frame which bears three incised lines as decoration. In section, the frames are triangular. The central cross bar, however, is square in section.
The buckle is bent outward from the crossbar, so that in profile it is V-shaped.
The pin is missing.

A cast buckle of Post Medival date.
The buckle has a circular frame with a cross bar across the centre. The frame is decorated on its surface with what looks like twisted wire/rope but is actually cast integrally with the buckle.
Similar to find No. NCL-8FB396 as it appears that its manufacturing has not been finished - found in the same area.

A late Bronze Age hoard.
1. Spearhead blade fragment. The upper part of a probable leaf-shaped blade with convex edges. The break is corroded. The midrib is round in section, but none of the socket survives. The hollowed edge bevels are fairly broad. Length: 73 mm; width: 33 mm; thickness: 13.5 mm; weight 41.9 g.

A decorated, copper-alloy buckle plate of the 13th-early 14th centuries.
The buckle plate is rectangular in plan and made from a single sheet of copper alloy, but missing about 20% of it in the lower lefthand corner. There are two circular rivet holes near the right edge of the plate, and there is a remainder of one of two hinges on the left edge of the buckle plate.

A cast copper-alloy possible strap slide or some other belt fitting of the Post-Medieval period.
The fitting is rectangular in plan, with slightly rounded ends, and C-shaped in profile.
The outside face of the object is decorated with a raised wavy line reminiscent of a snake, with raised semi-circular decoration emerging inward from the edges with short raised lines running between the 'snake' and edge decoration.
The two shanks, set perpendicular to the main plate of the fitting at each end are D-shaped in section and indicate break-damage and possible traces of soldering.

A cast copper-alloy spherical bell of 16th or 17th century date.
The bell has been cast in one and still contains the bean inside.
The top half has a sub-square tab emerging from the top with a circular perforation. To either side of the suspension tab halfway between the equatorial ridge and the tab are two circular perforations. Radiating centrally from the top are incised elongated petals/lobes.

Description of Object
Fragment of silver trumpet brooch, with only the head and part of the bow surviving. There are traces of copper from the spring, which is missing, alongside the lower part of the bow, foot and catchplate. There are a series of complex mouldings on the bow, which include an acanthus flower with five-petals. There are a series of transverse grooves within circular bands on either side of the acanthus flower; the head is plain.

A Roman coin hoard of the 2nd century.
Description of the Coins
The hoard contains twelve coins, of which eleven are silver denarii and one is a degraded copper alloy coin. The finder notes that it may be a nummus/minum, and this copper alloy coin is not likely associated with the deposition of the silver hoard. The earliest coin dates from AD 101-102 (Trajan) and the latest from AD 176 (Faustina Augusta).

A complete cast copper alloy star spur rowel of post Medieval date. The rowel is star shaped with seven points. There is a perforation through the centre for the attachment to the spur. Both sides are flat, one is heavily corroded, whilst the other is less so. The points of the star are also heavily corroded. A parallel can be found in Saunders, P and E. Gold finger ring, probably of Roman date. The hoop consists of a narrow band, slightly elliptical in section. The ovoid bezel, which has been soldered onto the hoop, consists of an outer decorative band of beaded wire which surrounds a box setting for stone, now missing. The setting is crushed and damaged and the hoop bent and distorted.
Discussion: the ring is probably of Roman date, although this is not certain. A parallel for the style of the ring was found at Leeuwarden and published by Henkel (1913, no. 135).

The fabric is cream-orange in colour and the inclusions are varied in size, mainly being grey in colour. The fabric is quite smooth and the grit is fairly well worn. The rim edge has broken off so the profile cannot be seen.

Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix, 14th century in date.
Copper alloy circular seal matrix, hexagonal tapering handle with a broken circular suspension loop at top. Device of, in the centre, a twig-like tree with a nest at the top; in this, a bird facing left. Either side of this two figures rather crudely drawn: on the left, a young man in profile facing right, and on the right, a rather long head of a woman in profile facing left, no real details visible. Unfortunately the edge of the seal is missing so no legend remains.

This is a two disc seal with an interconnecting strip. On the first disc is the legend; "...VIALL..." around the London Coat of Arms. The second disc is blank but would probably have had the arms of England on.

This is a four disc seal the interconnecting strip is broken but the seal is held together by a lead 'split pin'. On one of the first discs is the date 1635 either side of a fleur-de-lys. The second disc is a symbol/privy mark; "F".

A cast copper-alloy uniface British coin weight of Post-Medieval date. It is flat, circular in form and is struck on the obverse face only, the reverse face flat and undecorated. The obverse depicts St. Michael with a halo spearing a dragon to the right within a beaded border. It measures 14. mm in diameter, 3. mm in thickness
This is a coin weight for a British Angel, as indicated by the depiction of St Michael and the dragon, probably dating to c.1464-1604 AD (see Withers and Withers, 1995: pp. 21, 68).

Flint implement, probably an unfinished arrowhead, most likely Neolithic in date.
It is sub-triangular in plan with irregular edges. Near the bottom along one vertical edge there are traces of cortex remaining. The bulb of percussion is visible at the base. The front has bevelled edges near the top where flakes have been taken off running along the edges. The flint is a light grey colour with streaks of dark grey.

Flint implement, probably an unfinished arrowhead, most likely Neolithic in date.
In cross-section it is triangular with a central ridge running the length where two flakes have been removed. Both long sides have been worked with small pieces having been chipped off. The base of the arrowhead has been worked to start to form the shaft but it is not complete. The flint is a light grey with large white patches.
