An incomplete silver Roman denarius of Vespasian (AD69-79) dating to c.AD 73 (Reece period 4). The obverse shows a laureate bust facing right with only a partial incription, 'SPASIAN'. The reverse is worn showing Vespasian seated right holding a sceptre and branch. The inscription is almost illegible, possibly 'MAX IM'. Approximately one third of the coin has been broken off to the right of the bust between 1-4. The coin is 17.63mm in diameter and weighs 2.2g. An incomplete and corroded silver Roman denarius, probably of Flavian date and perhaps of Vespasian (AD 69-79), dating to the period c.AD 75-76 (Reece period 4). Probably PON MAX [TR P COS VI/VII] reverse type depicting Pax or Securitas seated left. Mint of Rome. cf. RIC II (2nd ed.) nos. 772, 774, 852 for the possible type.  The coin is corroded and missing a small section of the flan, which has laminated but does not appear from the images to be plated.
