A complete copper alloy probable medieval swivelling strap fitting. The object consists of a circular cross-sectioned hoop with a oval section projecting from one side. There is a circular hole, c.7mm at its widest point, through the centre of the oval section. The circular hole is faceted on both faces, suggesting that a moveable component was attached here originally. The cross-section of the hoop would also be unusual for a finger ring, suggesting a more practical function. It appears to have decoration on both sides of the frame of the hoop, leading to the oval projection, pos…

Copper alloy unidentified object fragment, possibly part of a strap fitting. A cast bar, now part-melted, to which are attached the expanded ends of a small integrally cast spool-shaped object of length 14.2mm with expanded round ends with a space 9.4mm wide between bar and spool. A function entailing the constraint of a light strap might explain this form. The melting of the object is unlikely to have come about accidentally. Copper alloy strap fitting. A pair of cast and juxtaposed rings with an integrally cast triangular plate between them; an incised border outlines the triangle which also has an off-centre round moulded boss within it. Abraded. The massy casting may hint at a Roman date while the form points to a function as a strap union.
