Record ID: GAT-C21560
Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A heavily worn and incomplete Bronze Age palstave axe head.
Extensive surface loss has occurred along the edges and surfaces of the find, giving the axe and thin irregular form.
The butt end is sub-square, and is slightly more truncated to one side. From the butt, the sides flare slightly. The side flanges are missing; however, the stop ridge is still prominently visible, especially on one side. From the stop ridge, the blade tapers slightly (due to surface loss) before flaring marginally to the cutting edge which is heavily truncated and rounded. A partial rib is visible on one face…

Record ID: GAT-10FD65
Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A lead weight.
The weight is circular in form and engraved with ‘IIII’ on one face. The reverse has a single linear line running across the face but is otherwise plain.
It has been suggested that leads weights incised with a form of number may represent the weight of the weight in ounces. If this example was meant to be four ounces, it is underweight at 3.6 ounces.
Illegal lead weights are notoriously difficult to date as they bear no official mark.

Record ID: GAT-10F54A
Object type: KEY (LOCKING)
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper-alloy rotary key.
The key consists of a triangular bow, an oval in section solid stem, and a sub-rectangular bit with multiple wards and clefts projecting.
An incised X is visible on the stem as it tapers outwards at the bow.
No direct comparable examples could be found. The key is too big to be identified as a casket key, and could therefore be suggested to have been a door key. While the key doesn’t fit stylistically with any compared examples, it can be suggested to be of late medieval to post medieval date.

Record ID: GAT-10EF31
Object type: MOUNT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A copper-alloy mount.
The brooch is formed of a single plate of copper alloy in the shape of a Tudor rose.
Raised floral decoration is present on the front face. On the reverse, aside from seeing the underside of the decoration, the mount is plain with no visible attachment points.
Due to the thinness of the metal the mount has become slightly warped and has a number of voids on its surface, probably occurring post deposition.
Based on comparable examples the find is likely Post Medieval (1650-1750) in date.

A near complete probable polished stone axehead dating from the Neolithic period.
The axe is sub-rectangular in plan, oval in cross section. The axehead tapers outwards with slightly convex sides from the narrower butt to the curving cutting edge. The butt of the axe may be slightly truncated.
Both faces of the axe have been polished as evident from the smooth surface of the stone as well as visible markings on the faces. There are chippings present on the stone, as well as what appear to be natural grooves and irregularities in the surface.

A post medieval to modern silver finger ring.
The silver ring is incomplete, partially broken along its circumference. Decoration runs around its outer circumference.
The internal circumference has been stamped and reads: ‘STIRLING’ Potential traces of further lettering is present below; however, this is only partially intact and non-discernable.
The ring is likely of late post medieval to modern date.

A post medieval to modern silver finger ring.
The silver ring is complete, with decoration running around its outer circumference.
The internal circumference has been stamped and reads: ‘SOLID SILVER’.
The ring was made in a medieval style and bears evidence of wear. The ring shares some decorative characteristics with other medieval rings. The stamping however indicates that this find is a later copy, likely late post medieval to modern in date.

Object type: SPEARHEAD
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete cast copper-alloy socketed spearhead of likely middle to late Bronze Age date (circa. 1500-600BC).
The spearhead is broadly sub-triangular in plan and profile with a sub-oval/leaf-shaped blade. The blade tapers to a blunted apex. A pronounced mid-rib is present on both faces. The socket and shaft are broken. This is more apparent on one face of the spearhead than the other. It is possible that the shaft would have included loops as is commonly found on other spearheads from this period (Savory 1980, 50-52).
The socket retained pieces of wood, presumably remnants of the …

Object type: FLAKE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A probable prehistoric core trimming flake.
The find is roughly triangular with a white, yet heavily worn patina. This would indicate that the find has been exposed for some time, likely eroding out of the soil.
The flint is truncated at the distal end and probably would have originally extended to a point. The flake has a visible bulb of percussion.

Object type: BEAD
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Gwynedd
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A blue glass bead with a slightly off central perforation.
The bead is broadly bun / globular shaped and is light blue in colour. The bead has a decorative white stripe of glass within the matrix. Glass beads are common finds from the late Iron Age - Early Medieval period, however stylistically this form is likely to date from the late Iron Age or early Roman period.
Dating beads visually is very difficult, however given similar beads are recorded as being of Iron Age to Roman date, this has been tentatively suggested for this find.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A love token formed from a silver coin.
Obverse: Worn, no visible decoration or legend.
Reverse: Worn, no visible decoration or legend.
The decoration on the coin has been intentionally worn away to create a silver love token. Given the coin has been so heavily worn, it is not possible to identify a ruler and therefore a precise date.
