A complete lead bi-faced token of Post-Medieval date (AD 1500-1850). One side has raised lettering/initials +E, the other side has an anchor. Powell type 5. The metal is a dark cream in colour with a pitted patina. Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be post-Medieval in date (1500-1850), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, …

A complete lead spindle whorl dating to the medieval period, c. AD 1200 to 1500. The object is circular in plan with a diameter of 24.66mm. There is a hole in the centre which in turn has a diameter of 9.70 mm. The spindle whorl is biconvex in section. Both faces of the spindle whorl are decorated with raised pellets but due to wear the arrangement is unclear.

Post-medieval copper alloy probable pipe tamper. Flat end has a central hole, with 14 inscribed lines radiating from it. This joins a stem with a circular cross-section of variable diameter, expanding into a disc-shaped collar, followed immediately by a spherical collar and another disc-shaped one framing it. There are three more disc-shaped collars further along the stem, arranged as a pair then a single collar. The stem tapers to a slightly rounded end with a suspension hole near its tip. A copper alloy pin, possibly of Saxon date. The pin comprises an onion shaped head. The head is decorated with a series of notches arranged in a cross shape. Where the head meets the stem, there is a circumferential groove. The stem is circular in section and tapers to a point. It is bent slightly half way down the stem. The pin has a length of 86mm. The head has a diameter of 7mm. The stem has a diameter of 3mm.

Robertson 2000, 22 no. 112 : ""In 1884 the present street plan was laid out on the site of the [Roman] fort. In 1895 the land within the south-east angle was cleared of older buildings and a well lined with masonry was found. It was examined by Mr. W.S.
