An incomplete copper alloy, gilded, Cloisonné enamel Disc Brooch of the late Early-Medieval date (AD 975-1125). The object is composed of a raised, stepped, circumferential flange on the front of the plate within which is cloisonné (inlaid enamel or glass) decoration is set, within cells created by copper-alloy wire. CURATOR'S REPORT Anglo Saxon silver stap-end. Description of find An Anglo-Saxon silver strap-end with four rivet holes, one of them still containing a flat-headed silver rivet. The front of the strap-end is incised with geometric ornament and curvilinear scrollwork resembling floral fronds along the edges. No traces of inlay remain, but there may originally have been niello. The back of the object shows green corrosion traces and is very scratched around the upper rivet hole on the strap-end's body. A flint pick of Mesolithic (or early Neolithic) date, rolled and polished by water action. Both faces are bevelled, but one in a more definite triangular cross-section. There are removals all over the surface of the pick; no cortex is present. The butt is oblique while the cutting end is now rounded due to wear. Both longitudinal edges have been 'battered', a common feature on implements of this type. The light grey flint has become weathered, and in many areas has taken on yellow and orange hues from iron staining.

The bowl from a clay pipe of modern date in the form of a male human head. It is an elaborate, joined bowl made in a three-piece mould; mould lines are visible on the sides and back of the head. The bearded man wears a close-fitting hat. Unfortunately, the person depicted has been able to be identified, although they have Arabic or Indian associations. It could have been that a maker's mark was lost when the bowl was broken from the stem. A small tertiary flint flake, undiagnostic, and so given a general prehistoric date. It is of a grey brown colour, with some patinisation resulting in a lighter grey patch on both faces, and a darker surround on the dorsal face. There is some edge damage which is estimated to have occured in antiquity, but the flake is in otherwise good condition.

A complete silver-gilt annular brooch of medieval date. There is a constriction for the tapering pin which is triangular in cross-section and has a transverse ridged collar below its loop. The frame is heavily moulded with a zigzag pattern with a groove within and deep triangular removals either side. The lower surface is flat, ungilded, and decorated with interlocking elongated S-shaped motifs featuring small linear incisions at their terminals.

A small flint handaxe of stained flint dating to the Middle Palaeolithic. It is sub-triangular in form. The object has a shallow S-shaped profile. It is covered by removals on both faces; the ventral face is far more intensively worked with far smaller removals than the dorsal. The sides are somewhat battered, while the distal end is broadly straight (this is where the axe would have been held). The removals have been smoothed a little by water action. The ventral face is of a largely orange hue, while the dorsal features off-whites and more brown colours.
