A complete cast lead weight, possible spindle whorl of uncertain date. The weight is circular in plan and domed in profile with a perforation in the centre. There is no decoration. The perforation is 2.5mm in diameter and appears to have been drilled from either side giving an hour glass profile to the sides of the perforation making it less likely that this has been used as a spindle whorl. Simple, undecorated lead weights of this type are notoriously difficult to date and therefore the date is given as uncertain.

Two hand wrought iron nails; one near complete the other fragmentary. Each shaft is square in section and each tapers along its length. The head of the nail is rectangular in plan and triangular in section (the head is a faceted dome). It is possible due to the nature of the site that these are Roman in date although due to the nature of the artefact type and its longevity it is very difficult to date specifically. A broad date range of 50 AD - 1850 is suggested. The nails are a mid brown orange colour with encrusted and laminating surfaces. The nails have a bulk weigh…

Two ceramic vessel sherds of Prehistoric date. It has not been possible to date the sherds more precisely than to say that they are likely to have been made between the Neolithic and Iron Age. Both of the sherds are formed of a ubiquitus flint gritted fabric and both are from hand made vessels. The total weight of the two sherds is 10.70g. One sherd is dark grey, 7.67mm thick, weighs 5.33g and is 26.61mm x 22.96mm. This sherd shows a little surface treatment (smoothed or possibly burnished) and pinching. The second sherd is also a darker grey but slightly lighter than the first wi…

A sub circular silvered copper alloy object, of possible Roman dating (1 to 410 AD). It is sub circular in plan, and D shaped in section. The top surface is smooth and domed, with a couple of uneven projections. The lower surface is flat. It measures 20.45mm in length, 21.34mm wide and 6.27mm thick. It weighs 13.1grams. The object could be a piece of casting waste, but there are traces of silvering on a couple of areas on both surfaces. The patina is similar to that found on early Roman coins, but this object is too thick to be a coin.

A copper alloy unidentified object of uncertain date. The object has a rectangular sectioned 'tang' at one end, and opens out into a sub rectangular wider and thinner area at the other. It is not clear whether the end is original or a break, but is possibly has slight teeth or a patterned edge, like a pastry jigger. The wider area is slightly convex and curved, making the reverse slightly hollow. There is a slight step between the 'tang' and the 'paddle' like area. The end of the square sectioned part is an old break. This object has some similarities with Roman styli, but the square …
