Translucent brown flint of high quality leaf shaped arrowhead. A round based and ogival pointed thin flake with pressure flaked retouch executed from both sides around four fifths of its edge, more extensively on the dorsal side. An Early Neolithic flint knapped arrowhead, probably dating to between 2150-1500 BC. The arrowhead has a sub-rectangular, dual-facetted platform, rather than a retouched proximal end, which would have allowed the arrowhead to be hafted easily to the arrowhead shaft. There are invasive, covering removals on what seems to be the distal face of the arrowhead, but the ventral face is mostly unretouched in the centre with just the mesial edges retouched in varying sizes from crude to fine retouch. The tip of the arrowhead at the distal end has broken off. The flint is of an even dark g

A worked / knapped possible fragment of a leaf-shaped arrowhead of Neolithic date, circa 3500-2350 BC. Another possible identification is that the fragment is from a knife. The fragment is roughly lozenge in plan and sub triangular in cross section. No cortex present indicating that it is from the tertiary phase of working of the core. The flint is even light grey / brown and slightly translucent. Identification of the dorsal and ventral faces is uncertain. Covering, scaled, low angle retouch present on both faces. Length: 20.81mm. Honey-coloured flint leaf arrowhead. Oval or ogival flat thin flake with long covering angled scalar retouch across its dorsal side and a flat ventral surface with long angled scalar retouch around its edges, this producing a thin lentoid section. The lack of patination may hint that the object was subsequently incorporated into a sealed deposit. A complete flint leaf shaped arrowhead, dating to the Neolithic period, c. 4000-1600 BC. The object is formed from a tertiary flake of a dark brownish grey flint, with some lighter milky brown patinisation having occurred on the ventral face. It is sub triangular in shape, with one face angling inwards at a sharp angle giving the appearance of the beginning of a tang, although this is absent on the other face. There is covering low angle scalar retouch on the dorsal face, with four smaller removals on the ventral face. Leaf shaped arrowheads have a long period of use from the e…

Grey-buff flint leaf arrowhead. A broad leaf-shaped arrowhead formed from a thin flake with covering angled scalar retouch over both its flat sides. The tip is lost, though the fine working of what remains hints that the object was of elongated ogival form when complete. The date might be either early Neolithic with deference to the quality of working, or later Neolithic, by reference to those finely worked rhomboid and ogival points which often seem too fine and delicate to have served as projectile points. It is unclear whether the tip of this object was lost in antiquity or recentl…

A leaf arrowhead, dark grey and brown in colour, which has been bi-facially retouched and is a formalised tool Both lateral margins of the dorsal face exhibit continuous retouch of low angle which borders on invasive and possesses a scaled morphology. This retouch is repeated on the ventral face. The tool appears to have been snapped at the left margin and proximal end intersect on the dorsal face. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar example on p133, Fig 5.119, F36 which dates to the Early Neolithic.

Object type: LEAF ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: North Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Pale grey semi-translucent flint with cortex, possible arrowhead. Knapped flake, possibly forming a crudely made leaf shaped arrowhead. The dorsal or outer surface bears three flake removal scars and a possible very limited zone of pressure flaking at the edge of remaining cortex; the ventral or inner surface bears further flake removal scars, some probably natural. The thin section may indicate this to be an artifact rather than accidentally formed. Suggested date: possibly Neolithic, 3500-2100 BC. Length: 26.6mm, Width: 20.1mm, Thickness: 4.7mm, Weight: 2.33gms.

Possible failed leaf arrowhead of mid to dark grey flint with small pale mottles. The ventral face invasion retouch on both edges and a flake removal scar to the distal end. There is invasive parallel retouch on the dorsal face across the proximal end and the right edge. The bulb of percussion has been removed and the waves of percussion are faint. The distal end tapers in width, ending in a crescentic notch. The distal end is thicker than expected for an arrowhead and it is possible that faults in the flint meant that when attempting to thin the piece, the tip broke leaving the cr…

About 90% of a leaf shaped arrowhead, missing the point to a break, dating to the Early Neolithic period. Both faces are covered by invasive, shallow, parallel retouch done by pressure flaking. There is a small unretouched area in the centre of one side. The arrowhead is broadly pointed oval with a wider base which comes to a point in the centre. The widest point is about a third of the way up from the base. The upper part of one side is slightly concave while the other is convex, the retouch suggests this is original. The arrowhead is a tertiary piece with no cortex left. As well as …
